My name is Sayuri Kelch, aka "Saju", and along with artwork I also do Arts and Crafts. "Saju" is a nickname that I was given during my school years in Japan. I married an American in 2004, and we used to live in California, but then moved to Florida, and now we live in Washington State.

 

I was born in Akita, Japan, and grew up both there and in Tokyo. After graduating highschool, I came to the U.S. where I met my now husband, while attending Butte College in northern California. I finished my degree there before returning to Tokyo, to work in the Magazine and Art Print/Frame industry. I continued to work in this field for approximately 2 years before returning to the U.S. to get married. Being away from Japan, has given me the ability to see the great parts of our traditional culture that I was unable to see before, and this realization has certainly affected my artwork.

 

I love cats, the internet, travel, photography, comics, magazines, movies, museums and all different kinds of art. I also learned and practiced traditional Japanese Archery (Kyu-do, pronounced "Key-you-dough") for 3 years during highschool. That was my first experience of the martial arts.


秋田県秋田市生まれ、秋田市、湯沢市、そして東京育ち。元吹奏楽部、元弓道部。
2006年までカリフォルニア留学、東京で数年働いたのち、アメリカに戻り国際結婚。
カルフォルニア北部でアメリカ人の夫+猫２匹のとアメリカ生活開始。
2010年春まで青い海と緑の森に囲まれたフロリダに5年在住。海がひたすら綺麗。
現在ワシントン州在住。猫は一時期５匹まで増え、天命を全うした子は虹の橋を渡り、現在２匹に落ち着いている。相変わらず夫婦で猫好き。
